The issue here is what value they add to Linux, not that the source is free. You could question the 'barrier to entry' issue - but that doesn't seem to mean much these days. Look at Yahoo, eBay, ONSALE, etc. there is no barrier to entry in those spaces either but it doesn't matter. They have established themselves as the 'goto-guy' in those spaces. If Redhat can do the same, then they will explode.

The problem RedHat is solving is making Linux easier for normal folks to use. If you have to be a UNIX guru/geek to use Linux you are going to have a tough time selling it in the consumer space. But if you can make it reallly easy to setup linux as a gateway/firewall box for you internal home network you might be on to something.
