Sun and EMC do compete. Very much, in fact when it comes to selling storage. EMC had the upper hand, primarily because of their "neutral" vendor stance, their support for numerous platforms and their focused sales and service. Sun Storage is just starting to rollout multiple platform support, so they are still behind EMC in this case and customer mindshare. Add their non-neutral stance hurts their story. The biggest thing going for Sun is their "technically better" and ability to to tie their "storage" solutions more closely with their hardware. Providing a single point of contact for a "mission-critical" server, where you don't want finger pointing etc will win them some business. -Bala
