Mickey,
I think that VAR is "value added reseller". They are like someone who takes the OPEN product, adds something of value like a service or another component and then resells the item. That is different than say someone who simply resells the product "as is". I think that it is save to say that the VAR are closer to the buying public than say a wholesaler.

Let just hope for more and more items like the one that you posted.
