ADSL Pricing info: GTE has just made ADSL available in my town, so I called to get the info. Installation is $249, including the modem, 1 email account and 5MB of web space. They have several different levels of service: 256K download, 64K upload $60/month 384K download, 384K upload $99/month 768K download, 768K upload $135/month 1.5M download, 768K upload $210/month. There's a catch: you must sign a 1-year contract, which you can't get out of even if you think their service is bad. And, they don't have demo setups in their local phone stores so I can't go and see it in action before I buy. With these prices and conditions I won't be signing up, especially as my cable operator will have modem service available in 6 months.
