Week ended December 4 in review

For the week ended last Friday, Intrawest fell 0.2% on the TSE, 1.1% on the NYSE.

Expect additional early weakness this week as the market responds to the cancellation of Whistler's Café de Columbia FIS World Cup alpine race on Sunday. The course was in good shape from the standpoint of snow cover, but some unfortunate heavy fog at critical sections forced officials to call the race for safety reasons.

Though more racing is due on Thursday when the Nokia FIS World Cup Snowboard Super G is run, losing the alpine race to weather for the third year running was something that Whistler (and Intrawest) would rather have done without.

Unless the overall market is very strong next week, lower prices will be tough to escape. Let's hope that expectations of a strong US retail sale report on Friday provides enough support to keep the naysayers at bay.
