>>ran some pull-the-plug tests on my APC Back-UPS Pro
This isn't a direct response, but this post prompted me to answer a question raised earlier as to overloading an APC 600 with my two PCs.
According to APC charts and manuals (and web site), I did not overload it with both PCs (and both monitors) running. This is necessarily vague, as they and I are speaking estimates, guesses, config adjustments due to inexact matches, and, no doubt, marketing hype.
One of these days I'm going to take the trouble to put an ammeter on the power cord under the same load to find out. Then, naturally, I will apply the .71 power factor we learned about in the last boring lesson to figure the UPS size in VA <g>.
In addition, according to APC's test to verify you're not overloaded, namely, pull the plug and see if the overload relay pops, again negative. Ran for several minutes; how many I posted at the time but now forget -- 5 or 6 I think. I did NOT continue the test till the point of failure but rather shut it off when fast beeps began. APC says this is the 1 minute warning, but now that I read this post I recall in my earlier tests it was more like a 3 - 5 minutes.
In any event, I conclude from these tests that I am not overloaded in my current setup. That was the earlier question.
