Right -- a pressure cooker! Flatsville, you seem so well prepared already. Couple of questions for you, re heat & cooking stoves:
No way am I going to buy a generator (where to put all that fuel??!!) or solar panels. Are kerosene/propane stoves safe? How much fuel do they need? Can the fuel be stored outside, in a shed (so as not to create a fire hazard in one's home)? Can heaters be used for cooking, or must one buy the stoves separately? Any other suggestions?

P.S. I may be lucky enough not to need any of this. My county --Montgomery County, Maryland -- is one of the very, very few counties that has a Y2K program. It was launched in 1996, before even the state got moving on the problem, and close to 40 million dollars have already been spent. Furthermore, the local power company, Pepco, got started in 1995, and judging from recent Congressional hearings, it is miles ahead of most other local electric companies...Still, better safe than sorry, sez I. |
