I do have a question however, if AMZN is stealing business from "these companys," why did the same store sames for Barnes and Noblels superstores for the last six quarters increase every quarter?

because bks is killing such companies as crown and other small independent book stores. eventually bks will not be able to grow by stealing biz from these smaller booksellers to replace the droves of buyers moving to purchase books from amzn. ever check how much faster amzn continues to grow over bks?

Will not the majority of new populance to the web be more familiar with toys r us, Barnes and Noble, etc. and know they are not a fly by night firm? In fact, would not AMZN be considered more of a fly by night?

toys and bks do not actively promote their websites, else it will cannibalize the mortar biz. the only these companies can think of competing with amzn on the web is to do an egghead, and close down the expensive mortar and open up virtual stores after the amzn model.

next amzn is creating a web presence name, that these other companies can only dream of. they may become the yahoo of shopping, just as msft is the software biz, amzn will be synonymous with shopping over the net.

maybe bks should sell the "store" and go only on the net, unfortunately they are so far behind amzn as to be impossible to catch up.
