, I would assert that the dialup service issue is a total red herring. For a few hundred dollars per month, you can get a 56K frame relay (or point to point) connection that will perform better than any dialup, has lower latency, and is far more reliable (and is up 24X7).

Dan actually you hit the nail on the head here. That's really what I was attempting to say. Raving about any dial-up local ISP on THIS POWER USER THREAD is what was out of place, IMO.

99% of the users on the internet can likely get all they want or need from a good local ISP. I recommend local ISPs to clients all the time.

But THIS THREAD is for active TRADERS who can not tolerate anything less that the best connection. And they should not be spending time attempting to isolate the best $15 ISP when for $45 the proven best is to be had.

Example: I just upgraded from a Sprint backbone on the National Prodigy Internet dial-up. Until recently that was "the best" short of bringing in a T-1 line (even ISDN was not available here yet). Now it is my back-up system while I pay $50 for cable modem connectivity.

I can say without hesitation that because of the improved executions over the cable modem hook-up in just the past 2 weeks that I am ahead at least 20 years of cable modem fees already.
