The major benefit of having your shares put into certificate form is to force the short sellers to cover their position and help prevent further shorting. The smaller the float the more difficult it is to short. Not impossible, just more difficult. If you have a certificate you can go to any broker in town and they will open an account within minutes and do the trade for you.
