I lived in Japan for 5 years and had to do without (actually, I was too stingy to pay for the overpriced cable there). Now that I'm living in the US again, I find I don't need to watch it any more. As you do, my family only uses it for the VCR.

Once one of the people that I manage money for asked me how I can follow her investments without watching TV. What a question! As we both know, watching TV only reduces the amount of time you can spend getting information from other more useful sources!
