Roger RE:800 connection trouble

How's your fnet connection working? I signed up Mon, was connected on Tues and have had trouble ever since. I lost connection countless times on Tues evening, Wed, & Thurs. Fastest connection speed has been 19200, the lowest was 4800!! I can usually log on, but can not stay on. I had to keep using AOL during the last couple of days.

Yesterday, just after the markets closed, I tried fnet and got a busy signal and then a no answer message!!!!! This after I read in the PR "no busy signals"!! Tech support has told me that 16800 is a normal connection speed (which I usually connect at, but lose), 4800 was not possible on the internet, and they have had lots of rain, so bear with us so our lines can dry out (rainy season is just begining in CA).

So I went out and signed up with a local ISP. The owner told me that with all the switches between where we live (deep S. TX) and fnet, the lost connections were probably due to line noise caused by all the switches. He thought 800 service to other smaller areas would have similiar problems.

Alice told me yesterday, about 2:45 EST, that they would give me credit till the end of the month, to see if the service would improve. I asked about using a different 800 #, and she said there has been only one # to dial since early last month. Roger, when did you get your new access number? She also said that new customers were being told now that they would not be connected until the end of the month, when they should be ready for a few more thousand customers. I asked about the PR, and she knew nothing about the content, but that it was going out in about 10 min (3 PM EST). I hope to be able to use their service in the future and I may still invest in FTEL. Will see how today and next week looks.

The local ISP is great and fast.

Doug
