Hello everyone, I was interested to see this thread on the HOT LIST. I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to comment on either of the following:

(1) All the liquidators & discount ('slightly obsolete models' like Pentium 133 laptops, etc.) places seem to be for PC's. Anyone know where my wife can get a Macintosh cheap (not an iMac though, I'm against that :) )

(2) Every year, hardware components get faster, screens get flashier, drives store more, etc. But my computer problems have always centred around reliability of hardware and STURDINESS of the construction of the computer. Also, stuff like high quality fans that don't get clogged with dust. Will somebody someday build a computer called "The Rugged One" with vibration proof, very cleverly designed case with no parts dangling around inside but rather put together very sturdily...etc. with hardware inside meant to last 10 years not 5. I know, you'd want to replace the stuff every 3-5 years anyway so what's the point. Well I can't tell you how stressful it is every time I develop bad sectors in my hard drive (presumably due to slamming doors and large trucks causing vibrations, or just a poorly put-together clone from a bucket shop rattling around too much inside its case). Sometimes I use an old XT!!!!! for e-mail using Pine...that thing is so ancient but the hardware is so simple, guess what...that thing works just fine, and the hard drive seems like it's good for another 20 years! I wish my computer was like that!
