Some new information on the digital roll out front:

We already know SFA has two cities up and running for Adelphia and Marcus. Two or three more should get switched on by the end of this month for other operators. It looks like the Cox Phoenix system will come on line in January and will be followed by San Diego, Oklahoma City and Las Vegas.

Time Warner is resolving its last issues prior to digital roll out and they are not the technical issues that had delayed the launch over the past few months. The hold up centers around Time Warner's decision against using the GI/TCI Head-end-in-The-Sky satellite system. As you know from previous posts, a digital system needs compressed channel satellite feeds to the cable head end. Time Warner has decided to use it's own service called Athena TV. Time warner is "grooming" the various digital channels (this is their ability to pick and choose feeds from different satellites). They should have this solution in about two weeks. Since this delay would bring us into the week of Christmas, it is possible that Time Warner could launch several markets simultaneously in January than just Austin in December. Other likely cities include Tampa and Columbus.

Cox is ironing out the last kinks in its system and is almost ready to go. They have had 800 friendly homes (employee's)on the system for over 6 months. For those who don't get it yet, they have been testing for 6 months to roll out commercialy in 1999 as each market is switched on. Nobody said VOD will be in front of millions in 1999. It will be in commercial operation and scaling up with subscribers while launching new markets.

I think another point is that the domestic cable market is not the only market that CCUR will sell servers to next year. I'd bet on a few unexpected deals along the way to boost the revs above Corky's predictions. Hope this info is helpful.

One more point, if anyone wants to do their own homework on the CCUR techcnology, they will understand the CCUR server can be configured from a storage content perspective in many ways from Raid to a JBOD (just a bunch of disks)storage scheme. One of the factors that is moving CCUR forward is the open platform and configuration options their server offers. In fact, at one point in 1999 as they move into the intranet market more agressively, customer will be able to configure a system right on the Web site and have a CCUR rep call with a quote. TM RENT will be playing with that for a while.
