Another good article, Scrapps, thanks. I still harbor leftover suspicions of anything the RBOCs do, more from habit than for cause. Still, anything that will speed up implementation of cost-effective DSL will be good for us.
I've discussed DSL with both my ISP and ILEC, and am somewhat discouraged to find that I seem to know more about it than they do -- considering my low level of knowledge, that is not saying much for them. My webmaster and the ILEC's chief engineer both think that they will be able to provide xDSL soon -- I asked "which 'x'" in the DSL, and they both think that xDSL is a particular type of DSL. I asked about copper line quality, and they assured me it was DSL capable. I asked how they tested it, and that was too complicated a question for them. Sigh. I feel like I'm always headed upstream. <G>
BTW, Scrapps, what did the PacBell folks do as their temp fix for your phone line? I've never been able to get a better connection than 26.4K bps. I've fussed at the phone guys for over a year, and they replaced a quarter mile of cable, but it was no significant help. My ISP supports 56K and I've got a 56K modem (both v.90), but I'm still stuck with the slow connection because of the phone system. If you know what your PhoCo guys did to get you over 30K, maybe it will work here too.
Thanks,
