All/ David, Kerm, Anyone...

Just some musings about the general direction of this sector:

I know that we're probably all watching for signs of a turnaround in the energy sector. I wondered if anyone has an opinion on where we are "at" right now? I'm assuming that a lot of companies would not initiate takeovers until they were quite sure of a bottom and near firesale prices. Are we there? Almost there? Is it likely that we'll see long term inactivity similar to that which has occurred in the mining sector?

Also, would the market be looking at energy stocks/prices differently if we were in the grip of winter instead of this odd extended autumn in eastern Canada (and I assume eastern US too)... a situation that could easily change in a matter of days? I know that most of us think about the market on a global basis, but what effect do you think N.A. perception has on pricing and market activity?

Anyone care to comment?
