Thread, OT: Donating stock to charity

I read that if one donates stock held for over 1 year to a charity, it is 100% tax deductible at market value, and thus you don't pay capital gains. I was thinking of doing that with some of my DELL shares bought last year; however I was wondering if anyone knew how exactly this was done. Do you have to get share certificates and send them to the charity? Or does the charity need to have a brokerage account and you transfer the shares directly? Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dell-icious
