Thief better than Half-Life?

I bought Thief last week, but lent it to a friend before playing it. Would anyone like to address how good it is, and whether it is better than Half-Life?

When I was buying Thief, I ran into the guy who reviewed Sin and some other games for Avault (http://www.avault.com). I was recommending another customer purchase Half-Life over Sin for the single-player. The reviewer suggested waiting to purchase Sin until the patched version hits the retail shelves. He also said that Sin (pre-patch) was the buggiest game he had ever played, including Moo II (!!! I thought I was the only one who hated MooII because of the bugs!!!). He recommended Thief over Half-Life too, although he said Half-Life was great. I thought it was pretty interesting that the reviewer is also the project manager of Blue Byte! Unfortunately, I didn't have the presence of mind to question him about any 3dfx issues wrt their software, since I was too busy trying to get info on how best to break into the game-writing biz. (His answer: Create a portfolio and shop it around was nothing original, but he probably here's that a few time a week.)

Cheers,
Timbur
