It seems to me that with an infrastructure that visits every residence and business in the US 6 times a week, the US Post Office is, or has the potential of being, the low cost producer in this industry. That's who delivers my books from BKS. I suspect that as the value of the shipment goes up, the shipping becomes less sensitive to cost, but internet commerce could have the effect of making the US Post Office an across the board better competitor to FDX.
