Jim it is a matter of style. My transaction cost are $20 for limit orders, so no big expense there.

In instances that I am not sure or feel uncomfortable with a transaction as today, I place very close stops. If the stock starts running I am placing trailing stops about 1/2 point below as I did yesterday on LU.

This morning I canceled the stop 95 1/2 and actually placed an order to sell at $100 after the stock moved above 98 1/2.

As to position trading I would agree with you that if you get on the right side of the trade it is more profitable than trading in and out of a position. Those decisions are quite personal and depend on the capital you dedicate to trading.

My style is to run scared and it works for me. The longer term investments are overseas mutual funds,or low P/E stocks and I do not bother to check them out for weeks
