Downsouth -
I think you are forgetting about the StorageWorks business that CPQ acquired with DEC. The only area of EMC's business which CPQ has not targeted is the mainframe storage. CPQ currently makes compatible storage for the whole range of SUN products including the 10000 series - they intend to sell more storage on SUN in '99 than SUN itself. They currently do more than $3B in high end storage attached to Unix systems, and about the same amount in CPQ's mainstream business. There is also a lot of storage sold with VAX and Tandem systems but I don't believe that is part of the storage division volume.

I would expect them to also go after mainframe storage as a part of an end to end multivendor storage business. They clearly intend to go after the whole storage market, and EMC is an obvious target.
