Amein, as I understand it, the general thinking is that Clinton is in no danger of being removed from office, and there is a good chance he will not be impeached, so the threat of impeachment is an empty gesture. Second, there were news items earlier issued I believe by Treasury denying the rumor of Rubin's departure. Neither issue seems to be of much weight.

** Reality check time **

Now consider the market maker hypothesis. Think about it for a moment. For every buyer there is a seller. So even if "they" had the power to drive prices up by buying today "they" would gain nothing by selling tomorrow. From whom do "they" buy and to whom do "they" sell? Second, think about how deep the pockets of the market makers need to be to accomplish this. And even if they could, nobody has demonstrated how "they" could make money doing this. Furthermore, the premise has changed. Last week we heard "they" would be dropping the price of equities because "they" had so much cash on the sidelines that needed to be invested. I simply don't understand why normally intelligent, well-informed people persist in engaging in this kind of nonsensical conjecture when there is not a shred of evidence to support it.
