Historical figures (19th century English mathematicians) selected for homage, undoubtedly for the alliteration of their names.

Boole created Boolean Algebra, whence computer programmers get "Boolean" variables, i.e. TRUE/FALSE.

Charles Babbage created the first actual working computer. Actually, a calculating machine. Completely mechanical. Gears and levers.

Side note: Babbage's girlfriend, Lady Ada Lovelace, is whimsically considered the first computer programmer since she "programmed" Babbage's calculating engine with the 19th century equivalent of punch cards. The ADA computer language (favorite of the Dept. of Defense) was named after her.
