Sedona(R)'s SpatialVision(TM) Business Geo-intelligence Application
Leverages New Release of Sun's Java Platform
Sedona GeoServices Inc., a Scangraphics(R) company (NASDAQ:SCNG), Tuesday announced full support for the next release of Sun Microsystems Inc.'s (NASDAQ:SUNW) Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK(TM) version 1.2) in its new Sedona SpatialVision(TM) product.
SpatialVision provides easy-to-use, timesaving features to optimize a business's rapid return on information investments by exploiting the geo-spatial components of business data.
The next release of the JDK provides a rich feature set of new class libraries and tools, making it easier than ever for developers to create portable, distributed, enterprise-class applications. Sun's announcement of the availability of the next version of the JDK was made today during the Java(SM) Business Expo(SM) in New York.
By displaying geographic information on maps, businesses can use SpatialVision to manage accounts better, provide visual decision support information, optimize site planning, and in any application where business information is easier to understand when displayed visually. SpatialVision enables spatial information to be queried, distributed and viewed on maps throughout the entire enterprise.
Colin Matthews, Sedona's president explains, "Businesses collect massive amounts of spatial data in the form of addresses, zip codes, telephone numbers, sales territories and so-on. Through the use of next-generation Java technology, Sedona SpatialVision enables every user in the enterprise to gain access to that data regardless of operating system or location, and easily view it layered over maps."
Matthews adds, "We are successfully working with JDK 1.2 to deliver enterprise scale Internet business applications using Java."
"Sedona recognizes the real business value that the Java platform, particularly the next release of the JDK, holds for the enterprise," said Jon Kannegaard, vice president and general manager of the Java platform at Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Java Software. "We are delighted to see Sedona underscore its commitment to the Java platform and to the advancement of Java technology."
Developed purely with Sun Microsystems' Java technology, SpatialVision utilizes many of the new and unique features of the JDK 1.2. It is platform independent and has been designed for optimal performance and deployment with the Internet.
Use of Java technology enables simple, cost effective customization, adaptation to various environments and rapid development of complimentary and discipline-specific components. SpatialVision integrates with Oracle8i Spatial (NASDAQ:ORCL) and can be run locally, remotely or through a web browser.
Sedona will be offering full use evaluation versions of the inaugural release of SpatialVision to attendees who visit the Sun Java Software booth (No. 1147) at the Java Business Expo at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York, Dec. 8 - 10. Sedona will also be hosting a drawing for a free PalmPilot(R) at the booth.
