Federal Agencies

PETALUMA, Calif., Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Fibre
Communications(R), Inc. (AFC) (Nasdaq: AFCI), a leading
manufacturer of telecommunications access equipment for the local
loop, announced today a five year contract with the General Services
Administration (GSA).

Under the terms of the contract, the UMC 1000(R) will be added as a
listed product in the GSA's purchasing catalogue, enabling Federal
Government Agencies in the executive, legislative and judicial
branches to purchase commercial UMC 1000 products and services,
under the terms and conditions previously negotiated between AFC and
the GSA.

This contract broadens deployment opportunities for AFC's UMC 1000
by providing a designated purchasing path for Government agencies,
Government contractors, mixed ownership Government corporations
and all other organizations authorized to utilize the GSA catalogue as a
supply source.
