John, No way ! This is DEFINITELY options related. God, the open interest on the calls was HUGE. No chance the market makers were not going to try and atack the options positions. They try every month to do this. If volume isn't too heavy they can frequently succeed. I wish the MMs really weren't the boogey men, but they are. I just want to add that at some point in 1997 I expect a decent correction in the market. The long term market time cycles turned down in May-June 1996. One of the intermediate time cycles peaks in June 1997, so that may be the time it starts, but it could come sooner. So my advice to all is to stay wary and alert.....
