Where are you getting your info?

And what was that about a $100 M deal with IBM?

Quickturn's lawyers calculated the $225 million number; it's $75M in compensation, times 3 for punishment. If the judge is especially crabby, they might get that. Mentor's lawyers calculated a figure of $3 million. If the judge is on crystal meth and heroin, they might pay that. The judge hasn't come out of his hole to check his shadow, yet, so nobody knows what the final number will be.

It's obvious that the buyout is (1) a last-ditch attempt to circumvent the patent-suit award which will be somewhere between 3 and 225 Million, and (2) Wally Rhines' own, special way of going down in flames and taking a few million dollars' worth of his arch-enemy's profits with him.
