Why does Win98 Y2K problem matter WRT to the stock price? Here's why: MSFT's stock price now is discounting a successful launch of Win 2000. Win 2000 is not targeted at the retail market. It is targeted at the corporate market, where MSFT cannot get away with marketing an inferior product. By coming out with a late product that still appears to be inferior, MSFT has opened the door to Linux to further gain into the mission critical market. Without further penetration into this market, MSFT will be stuck with the PC market growth rate, at best in the high teens. This kind of growth will not support the current stock price.
