Re: "Face it - Intel CPUs are the preferred CPU by those who want the BEST - not the CHEAPEST."

I don't think this thread of discussion was about the best CPUs. You were claiming that the millions of customers who bought Intel CPUs might be considered some sort of endorsement of product quality improvement from fifth generation Intel to sixth. I pointed out that that isn't necessarily the case.

Re: "Intel put a GUN to the heads of 100,000,000 people (that's a lot of guns, you know !) and FORCED them to buy Intel !"

That's not at all what I'm suggesting (obviously). I'm just saying that Intel isn't as great as you might think just because they sell a lot of chips. If I own the only spot in the desert where you can get a drink, and all I sell is Yoohoo, TRUST ME, I'm going to sell a lot of Yoohoo even though it may not be everyone's favorite drink. If I decide to change my offered drink to Dr. Pepper, you can imagine that I'll sell a lot of Dr. Pepper too--even if the additional utility provided by Dr. Pepper vs. Yoohoo is negligible. It doesn't make Dr. Pepper a better product. It just means there's no choice.

Paul, you make me laugh. People buy Intel CPUs because they work with Windows and they're reasonably fast. They buy AMD CPUs for the same reason. That's why both AMD and Intel sell everything they make. At certain points in history, Intel has been the only company to make CPUs that worked with Windows and were reasonably fast. That's why Intel was especially dominant at those times.
