AOL Developing Interactive TV, High-Speed Internet, Paper Says
Dulles, Virginia, Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) -- America Online Inc. is looking for a manufacturer to make television set-top boxes that would allow it to offer interactive television in competition with Microsoft Corp.'s Web TV, the Washington Post reported, citing AOL Interactive Services President Barry Schuler. In addition, the company is talking with regional phone companies, including Bell Atlantic Corp., about offering AOL- branded high-speed Internet access over the carriers' phone lines, the paper said, citing unidentified sources. While the arrangements are still being negotiated, ''things are headed in the right direction,'' an unidentified Bell official said, the paper said.
AOL and Earthlink Network Inc. will begin testing MCI WorldCom Inc.'s high-speed Internet service next year, MCI said last month. |
