[WSTL goings on]

I am looking for LUUUUCENT! I keep seeing references to 5ESS switch and WSTL. I don't have time to find it, but I thought I remember a representative from SBC saying they may sometimes want to use 5ESS solution rather than at DSLAM. I know I butchered that thought. Maybe someone can explain technical details, but when I read the quote, my though was, Hey, maybe SBC will use WSTL as second vendor. If my memory is wrong please gently correct me. I also think Dr.Tech's note about 'cash' (i.e. Lucent maybe) or 'fruity company' (maybe PAIR) makes sense. My take would be that Lucent is trying to steal WSTL cheaply, but for cash (not bad for some shareholders depending on cost basis, my guess is around 10$ offer). Kind of insulting for those in WSTL who saw AMTX go for 20$ after WSTL let TXN barge in. PAIR, on the other hand is actually making money and have a lot of cash, but no ADSL. They probably want to pool the companies and make a go of it. Interesting, but if WSTL on the cusp of making it BIG with Lucent if they just hold out, PAIR may just not be good enough to give in. ALL IN MY OPINION, but not too illogical??
