Panasonic's Open Approach Gains Acceptance By Robin Berger
Although only three years old, digital video (DV) technology has taken the broadcast industry by storm.
And as the number of station ENG crews using small-format (professional) DV compression has increased at an impressive rate, so too has the list of companies that have begun to support Panasonic's professional version, DVCPRO, in their product lines.
One need only look at the line-up of supporting equipment displayed at the recent International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam to see that this acceptance of Panasonic's digital codec technology has infiltrated virtually every part of the production and post chain.
The list this year included Avid's Newscutter DV, Tektronix's new PDR400 Profile, and Quantel's Cachebox, Editbox Platinum and Clipbox, in addition to Silicon Graphics, Inc. There's also C-Cube's DVxpress-MX mixed format delivery solution, divio Inc.'s NW701 single-chip digital video encoder/decoder, and Zoran Corp.'s ZR36070 Gemini DV codec. |
