Not only draining the pipes but blowing all of the water out of the pipes is required. If you can't leave them empty or blow them out you can winterize with propylene glycol and water 50% - 50%. Just don't use them after winterizing or DRINK IT. Any water left in a copper pipe will break the pipe. ANY WATER.
