Frank- One of the the things that you will not find in any public
place are the EXACT numbers you ask for, so you can develop your own
business plan. (Just carrying this to an extreme for emphasis).
The ISPs consider the information business sensitive just like they
consider the peering arrangements business sensitive and, as you probably know, the majority of traffic exchange does not occur at
NAPs as you suggest.

The 50 or so ISPs (and the number grows smaller) can all demonstrate
very clearly the traffic that they carry, and how that traffic grows
month-by-month and how it has behaved over the past year or two. That
traffic growth drives the current build-out and all the infrastructure
things. UUNET, MCI/CW, SPRINT and others have all demonstrated this growth and it has been shown/shared with business partners.

One of the openly archived traffic growth statistics is that of
DOEs Energy Science Network. To be sure, the traffic on this network
is not quite like that of those above, but this growth prevails.

As for others-- Vint Cerf-- in late 1997 about MCI
redherring.com

"For us the challenge has been interesting because the growth in traffic for Internet services was 400 percent last year, and we anticipate an enormous amount of growth ahead of us."

This has been reiterated by others at MCI in interviews in the Cook Report.
