I've said all along that analysts should be required by SEC regs to post their prior performance on stocks they are expressing a rating for. That way the market can have an immediate reference point on that analyst. My guess would be that the adjective "influential" would disappear from in front of most of their job titles.

As far as manipulation goes, the market isn't stupid for long when it comes to valuing a stock. When Kurlak was wrong on intel, (The most recent time), his recommendations had an ephemeral effect on the stock price at best.
