TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 16 - PowerCerv Corporation (Nasdaq: PCRV), a leading supplier of client/server business applications, has formalized an alliance with Unisys Corporation's (NYSE: UIS) Computer Systems Group (CSG), the technology division of the $6 billion global information management company. Under the terms of agreement, PowerCerv's suite of ADAPTlication business software will be marketed as optional additions to buyers of the Unisys enterprise server hardware, creating comprehensive business solutions for CSG's client/server customers.
"As our existing clients either supplement or transition from their proprietary mainframes, we are steering them toward client/server solutions that will better serve their needs," said Paul Schimpff, Channel Promotion Manager at Unisys. "PowerCerv's ADAPTlications are complementary to our ongoing strategy of moving to open systems with NT and UNIX platforms. These packages also offer the advantage of enabling customers to modify a specific application to meet their requirements in a way that can be maintained over time, eliminating the need to purchase new software and retrain people every few years. This is a powerful capability that will be a strong selling point with our customers."
PowerCerv's ADAPTlication suite is a series of packages covering Sales Force Automation, Customer Support, Distribution, Manufacturing and Financials. Usable out of the box or customizable via PowerCerv's Object Extensible Architecture to meet the needs of individual customers, these "adaptable applications" function as either standalone or integrated, enterprise-wide solutions that are specifically engineered to accommodate the rapid change necessary for sustaining competitive advantage. Users can upgrade to new ADAPTlication versions while maintaining their customizations, and data-driven solutions can be modified quickly. "The open-systems architecture of CSG's hardware is a good match for the open-systems architecture of PowerCerv's software, and bringing the two together through this alliance creates a powerful package that benefits both companies," said PowerCerv President and COO Marc Fratello. "Putting the CSG division of Unisys behind our ADAPTlications gives PowerCerv access to one of the largest direct sales forces in the computer industry today, and it gives Unisys sales personnel the ability to position themselves as solution professionals who can address the complete business requirements of their customers." "The alliance also benefits from the synergies between PowerCerv's individual solutions and Unisys' vertical markets," noted Mark Elliott, PowerCerv's Vice President of Business development. "PowerCerv's ADAPTlication for Sales Force Automation will give CSG sales staff the opportunity to expand their company's already strong presence in the financial services marketplace, and the ADAPTlications for Manufacturing and Financials will provide strong software solutions for CSG's commercial customers," Elliott said. "The ADAPTlication for Financials is also expected to be an attractive solution for Unisys' education customers."
Beginning in January, PowerCerv will hold training courses throughout the country to educate the CSG sales staff in the special features of PowerCerv's ADAPTlications, competitive product positioning and other product information.
PowerCerv will also provide support to Unisys at industry trade shows such as UNIX Expo and Database Expo. |
