We have Social Security. It's included within the Federal Tax.

The easiest way to look at things in Canada is:

Tax on income less than 60,000 is around 39% (including provincial taxes)

Tax on income above 60,000 is aorund 50% (including provincial taxes)

Tax on capital gains is between 37 and 40%

Tax on dividends is around 33%

These taxes do not include sales taxes which average around 15%.

No fun paying all this tax! But we do have very good safety nets, although in the past fewyears, people would argue that its going down hill.
