RE: PRGS vs. ORACLE

I am a software developer at QAD, Inc. We have over 5 million lines of code written in Progress. We port this same code to ORACLE DB's (accounts for about 20% of our new business). But we (and virtually everyone else who developms for a Progress DB) use the Progress 4GL, NOT PROGRESS SQL!!!

I have been extremely interested in PSC's technical direction and the functionality of recent releases. If we didn't have a mountain of legacy code, I would be "on the fence" re: staying with Progress. The "event model" of development is fairly good for GUI, and their
"Smart Objects) have some nice features.

They have a decent technical vision, but very poor Marketing. That's why I would be very favorable to a MSFT aquisition. If anybody knows abaout marketing software, it's Microsoft (of course ORACLE is not far behind).
