Once the ball gets rolling; it will be a landslide to higher bandwidth as you say. We have this one nailed. There are forces that come to play with this kind of thing. Nobody in the car business when one company came out with an 8 cylinder engine continued to push 4 cylinder engines. It just doesn't work like that. The anxiety of being left behind within all companies forces them to the hottest technology once it starts to roll out. Nobody wants to let one company gain a monopoly in the next wave.
