Amanti has the patent for the DMT version of xDSL, and has had
for at least several years. DMT, developed by Amanti, has been
the ANSI standard for the past 3 years.

This is where debate starts. Westsell would like to have CAP
added along side DMT in the ANSI standard, but the ANSI cmte
basically balked at this 'cuz they decided the standard was DMT
3 years ago. What's a standard if you say it's not valid?
However, Westsell has inferior products out (not as robust)
which some telcos have stated they'd like to use. So ... it
remains to be seen what comes of this.

As for a patent, DMT is a spread spectrum type of technology.
It would not be possible to be compatible with it w/o
infringing on the Amanti patent because any compatible device
would have to implement the Amanti algorithm(s).

ADSL is not yet "out there". There's still a lot of speculation.
Consequently, much of the data out there isn't "data" but
rumor, hype and speculation. Distinguishing this from that
if often difficult.
