It's been pretty quiet around here. This may or may not be good for Internet Capital Group:

biz.yahoo.com

They were an investor in iCat, which Intel acquired. And here's an interesting analysis of the deal:

internetworld.com

Apparently not everything "NET" gets tons of money thrown at it. But you would think that an Internet e-commerce company wouldn't have to go begging for cash, wouldn't you? Perhaps the consolidation will leave only the very biggest - AOL, YHOO, and AMZN standing?

Glad eMerge is coming along: biz.yahoo.com. Looks like a good technology.
Also, didn't see this mentioned here yet:

Mayor Rendell to Announce Microsoft Investment Package; Philadelphia E-Commerce Initiative to 'Revolutionize' Local Business Climate

PR Newswire, Tuesday, December 08, 1998 at 14:21

Philadelphia Mayor Edward G. Rendell and Microsoft Corporation Group Vice
President for Sales and Support, Jeff Raikes, will announce a package of local
economic development investments to an audience of over 600 business and civic
leaders during a luncheon on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza
Hotel. The investments, provided under the "Microsoft Philadelphia Electronic
Commerce Initiative," include consulting, software and training grants for
non-profit organizations to develop the necessary support infrastructure to

In addition, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and SafeGuard Scientifics, Inc.

Scientifics Center for E-Commerce Management.
During the luncheon, which is titled "The Next American Revolution:
Digital Commerce Philadelphia," local business, civic and educational leaders
will hear Raikes explain the impact of expanding electronic commerce on the
local economy. Raikes will demonstrate the successful electronic commerce
sites of local companies such as iQVC, WineAccess, and Electronics Boutique,
all of which have used the Internet to create a competitive business edge in
the digital marketplace.
"Microsoft's commitments are an expression of the company's confidence in
the Philadelphia region as a premiere location for the future growth of
information technology," Mayor Rendell said. "Microsoft's efforts will
greatly reinforce our own initiatives in Philadelphia to attract and grow
technology and knowledge-based industries. We look forward to a strong
relationship with Microsoft that will benefit the development of the city and
the region as a hub for electronic commerce."
The Microsoft Philadelphia E-Commerce Initiative also will introduce a new
regional Web site that will serve as a resource for local companies interested
in exploring e-commerce opportunities. The Web site will highlight local e-
commerce training and seminar opportunities from non-profit support
organizations, provide an "e-commerce assessment web" that guides businesses
to important next steps, and announce special offers from local solution
provider, consulting and training organizations. Visitors to the Web site
will have the opportunity to enter an e-commerce business planning contest
that will select winners for software, training and consulting grants from
Microsoft and its local partners.
