Steven, you and I agree on many things, but this is not one of them. If you followed the hearings on the Iran-Contra affair, as I did, you would have discovered that Henry Hyde was an ardent defender of what was a blatantly illegal attempt by the Reagan-Bush administration to subvert the law (the Boland ammendment). And they did it by lying and deceit. Henry Hyde excused the lying to Congress on the grounds that it was justified (even though lying to congress is a criminal offense) because a greater good was involved. [As you may recall, Bush issued a Presidential pardon that covered Casper Weinberger among others on this issue]. Hyde took a similar tack in the Watergate hearings, where he was a defender of Richard Nixon right up to to the end. Apparently, only deceit by Democrats is recognizable by Henry Hyde.

One other thing for you to consider. When the House Judiciary Committee met to consider drawing up a articles of impeachment on the Watergate issue they specifically excluded charges relating to Richard Nixon's blatant attempt at tax evasion (a felony) because the Democrats on the committee argued that that was personal behavior and did not rise to the level of abusing the office of the President.
