T., I don't think so. This argument was fostered this Summer by some guy who said he knew for certain that Clinton would resign on the following Monday. Still waiting.
Nixon was a different situation. He did not have enough votes to gut it out. But folks forget that Tricky was an extremely popular President, moreso than Clinton. And most folks thought Gerry Ford, God love him, was dumber than a red brick fence. Most do not think the same about Gore. They may dislike him, and I don't think he is a day at the beach, but he is no dummy.
We have to remember that Nixon's exit was preceded by the resignation of Spiro Agnew. That left us for the first time with a President and a Vice President who had not been elected or, indeed, even run in the general election.
I just don't see Clinton resigning unless a number of Democrats come to him and say get out, you are a disgrace, the way Al Haig and Barry Goldwater did to Nixon. The only Dem I see with that much courage is the former POW, Kerry. And, despite the fact that he is a well-liked guy, he is not exactly the elder statesman that Goldwater was.
