I use a M.G.E. UPS Model 220+ as a power backup.
You do need to have a com port to plug into though. It has software that allows you to set it up so that it will close down all your files and then shut down windows properly, you can also run your monitor & phone line through it .One feature that I also like is that it has a cadmium battery in it instead of a acid battery which allows it to be nice and small. I have shut the power off several times to make sure that it works & it does. Hope this helps. Fred
