Ibexx, Re: "Barrett's potential as a visionary senior manager of a large high-tech company. Some doubt was expressed (by MC, I think) that since this guy received his formal education in engineering, he probably would not have what it would take to run companies like INTC. At the time, I was enraged by such narrowmindness.
Remember that?"
Yes I do. Never any doubt in my mind WRT Barrett's education qualifying him, considering that people like Noyce, Moore, Grove, Amdahl all majored in engineering or a physical science also (PHDs all, at that, like Barrett). I'm pleased at Barrett's style, at least what I can glean from a stockholder's perspective. One thing I like is the way gross margins have been going. The mantra from Intel had been yes, we're enjoying high 50's or low 60's percent GM now, but long term we expect more like 50%. Well, it got down near 50%, but has been going back up. It looks to me like a lot of cost management scrutinizing (and yes, a very good market climate) are responsible for the improvement. Must be Barrett not taking the old mantra and deciding to do something about it.
