1500 for samba, How many thousands of dollars of sgi hardware does it take to outperform 1500 dollars of intel box running samba for ZERO??? Now it did take me 15 minutes of scanning the example ridden default smb.conf file when I set it up on linux a couple of years ago. Each of the seven features I enabled worked the first time and as I expected. I bought the O'Reily Samba Book. Twenty bucks. It has an excellent discusion on how bad NT security is as I recall. I really didn't need the book but what can I say, I'm a bookie. I know, this is groudless FUD. OH this is an email I sent to a dude I know at xig. Using about a 400 dollar intel box with 500 for the display. Assume 300 for the xig opengl and 180 for the video card. Yesterday I finally received a number nine revolution 4 video card. I got it at 2 pm. Installed the beta openGL by about 2:25. I called my associate Allen over and we proceded to do a quick test of the card. We logged into sako a SGI 0rigin 200 with dual cpu's and no video. 100 baseT pretty direct. We ran /usr/demos/General_Demos/tex_cube/tex_cube We ran 5 at a time. Different speeds and different sizes. The speed is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At 4.15 we had several senior managers looking at this demo. All were impressed, I'm dumbfounded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey on the bright side, sgi is rumored to own 26% of nine.
