roq, i don't want a novice to think options are necessarily safer than shorting. options are extremely dangerous. especially out of the money options. if you have 5 in a row expire worthless, you might not conclude options are "safe" or even safer than shorting.

somebody might have shorted before and feel safe doing so. if options are thought of as safer then a strict system might not be utilized and said person may be hanging around the soup kitchen. i don't think either of us want that. well, for most people ;-)
