Christine,
I am not surprised that you think those things but Jesus was not political and avoided answering political questions. He never gave an opinion about the Roman occupation contrary to what you may believe, but you read from sources that are not authentic so it's hard to know what you are getting from these sources. "Leftist" by today's standards meaning he cared about the downtrodden? He would not vote or register as a Democrat were He here today. Politicians make heavy burdens for other people to bear as they always have. His "rabble rousing" was His anger because the selling of animals, grain and other items for the ritual offerings and sacrifices had become a permanent business at the Temple and He felt that this defiled the Temple of God. The people were paying for their forgiveness; instead of their repentance coming from their hearts it was coming out of their money purse. Jesus never made any statement at all about homosexuals but He did say He fulfilled all the law. Just as He told the adulteress to go her way and sin no more so He would have said to the homosexual. Jesus did not make adultery OK by refusing to stone the woman and neither would he annul the prohibition in the law against homosexuality. And finally, He gave His life willingly as a ransom for our release from captivity by sin and death. He stated He had a baptism to undergo, He was referring to His death. He could have called a legion of angels to free Him but He had to do it to save us. And He did. But He did not remain dead but was the first to rise again and so we can also rise from death with Him.
