Cobalt,
I wonder what religion they teach in the schools in India? Or China? Or other countries of different or no religious persuasion? I wonder if they have such a problem as we do of minorities wanting to stamp out the predominant religion of the land. Well, yes I hguess so. In India they kill each other so I guess we are pretty civilized by those standars. I do live in a lily white protestant community. But I was born and raised in Rochester, NY so I'm no country bumpkin. I'm proud to say though that nobody has torched the one Catholic church (or are their two) in our county. I'm not a catholic though, don't get the wrong idea. The hari chrishna's moved on, they couldn't take the heat. Someone did torch a small grocery store because they started selling beer in a small community in our county that has never had beer sales before. The beer is gone. I'm not saying I condone arson, just that people feel strongly around here.

You say tax payer funded and that's the rub. First the fed took over control of the schools through strings attached to block grants to states for education. That opened the door to stamp out christianity. If the fed were not involved in local education the whole issue of school prayer would be a non-starter.
