Most of the people that I come into contact with in Aspen are not aware of Y2k in the least. They are motivated by quick investment and return and seem to be totally unaware of the fragile edge that our society runs on. I would say that 99.5% of them have never had their hands over 1/2 inch into soil. To grow a crop, slaughter an animal, chop firewood, store grains or any of a hundred other chores I have taken for granted over the years would leave them clueless. I don't want to sound cynical but these are the facts.

The ones who will wield power in a crisis are the ones who are educated in the arts required for survival. If one has had to survive all their life with their hands that will not be hard. A common beggar that has lived his life with a knapsack on his back will be more in demand than the owners of ten castles.

I sould expect that some of the homes will become armed command centers for corporation heads to protect themselves in if we do have a meltdown. I know that the Saudi prince has an unbelievable security zone around his home and we would see this occur promply at the first sign of system collapse in other areas.

The first test will come this new years. Then April will give a good indication of what Dec. 31st, 1999 will be like. I want to be like the boy scouts. Prepared.
